Indox Publishing Engine Is producing and distributing information a significant part of your business? If you own large volumes of structured, semantic information which must be dynamically delivered to different target groups through different media, Indox is the right solution. Indox is flexible, fast and easy to operate. Indox is a software application that has been developed for managing and distributing large volumes of XML documentation. It contains all the tools required for the dynamic publication; from the database to the full text search engine which utilises the structure of the document and accelerates finding the right information. Further included are tools for defining the contentís formatting, representation of search results and navigation tools, and more. Assemble and publish Indox is based on a database that stores the documents to be published. The material that has been assembled can be published in different medias (Web, CD, PDA, WAP, paper..) and chunked to pieces best suiting each media. Depending on the distribution media the links can be presented either as hypertext links, cross-references or resolved into text format. Reasonably structured data doesnít need any modifications in order to be published in Indox. Right information, faster and easier From the user point of view the most important feature of the dynamic distribution system is the possibility to make searches. Indox search engine is based on technology that is capable of utilizing the content and structure of the XML data. Finding relevant information can be facilitated by editing the search model so that the system will take the context of the information into consideration and emphasize hits according to it. The search results can be examined in many different ways. The contents around the hit can be shown with the query words emphasized along with the information identifying the context of the hit. The number of the hits visible on one page can be regulated by splitting the results to several pages. The user can choose the hits to be shown either in relevance order or as they appear in the publication. The Indox system offers the possibility to build a user interface that considers both the needs of the user and the structure of the publication. If the material to be published consists of several thematic entities, its hierarchy can be displayed and the user can target his search to the thematic entity that he wants. Indox is flexible The presented information can be chunked into suitable pieces either according to the structure (elements, subtrees) or the size. A part of the document can be pointed by XPath, XPointer or XQuery, which also can be used to dynamically create new XML nodes. The power of Indox has been maximised by using intelligent cache control. As the pages are retrieved, they are stored in the server side cache and are directly served from there at the next time. The pages can also be stored in the cache beforehand. The client navigation can for example be based on HTML and Javascript produced on the server side with XSLT and custom JSP tags, or a Java applet which can used as a basis for navigation by displaying the table of contents and managing browser events. Different roles can be defined for the links and their appearance and behaviour are determined according to the role. Thus the link can look different depending on the fact whether it appears among the text or in a table of contents. XLinks are solved using XPointer or XQueries. XSLT stylesheets define the contents appearances. The stylesheets are specified either with the help of document roles that have been defined in the configuration file or using the parameters transmitted by the application.
